Rising crude oil prices above $100 per barrel amid West Asia tensions and broadening food inflation from below-average monsoon rainfall have lifted India's CPI trajectory, underpinning the 90.5% market-implied odds for a 2026 annual average at or above 4.50%. Recent prints reached 4.57% year-over-year in July, with August consensus near 4.9% and RBI projections for FY27 averaging 5.0-5.1% across quarters. Trader consensus reflects these supply-side pressures and limited near-term pass-through relief, though scenarios such as a sharp oil price reversal, improved reservoir levels supporting rabi crops, or faster monetary tightening could still pull the full-year figure below the threshold if they materialize before year-end.
