Apple faces steep regulatory and political barriers to sourcing CXMT DRAM despite earlier lobbying for U.S. approval amid 2026 memory shortages and price spikes. CXMT remains on the Pentagon’s 1260H list of alleged Chinese military-linked firms, and reports indicate the Trump administration declined Apple’s request for assurances against Entity List placement that would impose licensing hurdles. While CXMT’s CEO stated openness to an Apple partnership and its new G5 platform entered mass production in September with competitive LPDDR5X chips, limited wafer capacity, ongoing U.S.-China tensions, and warnings from lawmakers continue to deter commitments. Traders see these factors sustaining high odds against any 2026 purchases even as Apple explores diversification.
