This market will resolve to “Yes” if a snap election is called in Spain by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” The calling of a snap election requires the formal dissolution of at least one house of the Spanish Parliament or another formal scheduling, according to the rules of the jurisdiction, of an election for all members of at least one house of the Spanish Parliament prior to their scheduled election at the end of their parliamentary term. The resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of Spain; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. Spain’s minority coalition government under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has operated without Junts support since late 2025 and relies on a reconducted 2023 budget after the 2026 fiscal plan failed. Sánchez has repeatedly affirmed his intent to complete the legislature and hold the next general election in 2027, possibly as early as February or March, rather than calling a snap vote before year-end. Opposition parties lack the numbers for a successful no-confidence motion, while internal PSOE divisions and partner demands for earlier polls have not altered the prime minister’s public stance. Recent parliamentary sessions and budget maneuvering continue to center on extending the term into 2027, supporting trader consensus that no dissolution will occur in 2026.
