Latest National Weather Service forecasts for Austin on September 17 point to a high near 98°F under partly sunny skies with a 30% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, aligning closely with the market's near-even odds between 96–97°F and 98–99°F. East-southeast winds and increased Gulf moisture are expected to boost cloud cover, limiting peak heating compared to the 100°F+ readings observed the prior day. Model consensus shows modest spread due to uncertainty in convective timing and coverage, which could shave several degrees off the maximum if storms develop earlier. This setup sits well above the late-September climatological average of around 91°F, with traders weighing the balance between lingering heat and moderating moisture ahead of the next forecast update.
