Brad Sherman’s commanding position in the CA-32 race stems from the district’s strong Democratic tilt, reflected in its D+14 Cook Partisan Voting Index, combined with his long incumbency and primary victory under California’s top-two system. After advancing past multiple Democratic challengers in the June 2026 primary, Sherman faces Republican Larry Thompson in the November general election. Forecasters rate the contest Solid or Safe Democratic, consistent with the area’s voter base across the San Fernando Valley, Malibu, and parts of Ventura County. Thompson’s limited fundraising and the absence of major recent developments further reinforce trader consensus around the incumbent. Potential shifts could arise from unforeseen events such as a significant scandal, health development, or unusually low Democratic turnout, though the district’s structural advantages make such outcomes unlikely.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
