**Recent Houthi attacks on Saudi-linked targets and the ongoing maritime blockade declared in July 2026 have kept Bab el-Mandeb transits suppressed near 25 commodity vessels per day.** Data from early September show 25 vessels transiting on September 9, with a 10-day average around 27, well below pre-2023 peaks near 60+ daily. Renewed strikes on Aramco facilities in southern Saudi Arabia and associated threats have stalled any recovery seen earlier in the summer, prompting continued rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope, increased use of dark AIS transits, and selective carrier avoidance. Tanker volumes remain especially constrained, with daily averages in the single digits amid elevated war-risk premiums. These security dynamics, rather than seasonal or macroeconomic factors, anchor trader consensus around the sub-30 ranges, as no near-term de-escalation appears imminent before month-end.

This market will resolve as soon as the relevant data has been published. If the relevant data is not published within 14 calendar days of the specified date, this market will resolve based on the most recent data published up to that point.
In case of obvious data integrity issues (i.e., erroneous data), the market may remain open until the end of the third calendar day (ET) after the date on which such data is first released to allow for corrections. Data integrity issues refer only to clerical or other similar errors in the underlying data, and do not include cases where IMF Portwatch differs from alternative sources.
