Apple announced its first foldable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Duo, today at its September 9 event, setting a starting price of $1,999 for the 256GB model with a book-style design featuring a 7.6-inch inner display. This undercuts widespread pre-event speculation of $2,000-plus pricing driven by premium titanium construction, advanced hinge engineering, and supply-chain reports highlighting manufacturing complexity. Competitive pressure from Samsung and Google foldables, combined with Apple's emphasis on minimal crease visibility and iOS optimizations, shaped trader expectations around a high but accessible premium tier. Pre-orders begin in mid-October, with any last-minute adjustments or regional pricing variations representing the main remaining variables for market resolution.
