OpenAI’s path to an IPO remains anchored to CEO Sam Altman’s $1 trillion valuation target, well above the $852 billion post-money mark from its March 2026 funding round that raised roughly $122 billion. The company filed a confidential S-1 in June but has since deferred any 2026 listing, with CFO Sarah Friar confirming in August that a public debut is expected in 2027 unless revenue inflects sharply higher. Monthly revenue now runs near $2 billion, supporting a $24 billion annualized pace, yet the firm projects a $14 billion operating loss for 2026 and breakeven only around 2030. Recent volatility in peer listings, notably SpaceX’s post-IPO share decline, has tempered near-term market appetite and reinforced the preference for stronger fundamentals before pricing. Traders are monitoring any public S-1 filing or updated guidance for signals on timing and achievable valuation.
