Incumbent Patrick Johnstone holds a modest edge in trader consensus for the October 17, 2026 New Westminster mayoral election, reflecting his established record on housing affordability and social services through the Community First New West slate. Challenger Daniel Fontaine of the New West Progressives narrows the gap by emphasizing public safety enhancements, street cleanliness, taxpayer accountability, and an end to perceived one-party dominance on council. A recent early-September debate underscored these contrasts in governance approach and policy priorities. The close pricing captures limited polling data, ongoing local debates over urban disorder and development pressures, and the potential for late-campaign shifts in turnout or endorsements ahead of election day.
