Onyeka Oshionwu (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) advanced from the September 13 first round with 41.4 percent, ahead of Ehsan Kangarani (CDU) at 27.9 percent, setting up a September 27 runoff after no candidate secured an absolute majority. Trader consensus reflects her substantial first-round margin, prior role as honorary mayor and deputy to the outgoing SPD incumbent Petra Broistedt, and the Greens’ strongest showing in the concurrent council vote. Kangarani, a state prosecutor, trails significantly in the runoff matchup. A narrower result remains possible if turnout shifts notably between rounds or if late mobilization favors the CDU candidate in this German municipal contest.
