Recent US Dollar Index (DXY) levels near 98.7–98.8 reflect offsetting pressures ahead of key inflation releases. Stronger-than-expected August nonfarm payrolls lifted market-implied odds of a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve hike at the September 15–16 meeting to around 60 percent, while rising Brent crude above $101 per barrel—driven by US-Iran tensions—added to inflation concerns and supported Treasury yields near 4.85 percent on the 10-year. However, Bank of Japan tightening expectations have fueled yen appreciation, capping dollar gains and contributing to the index’s three-day decline. Traders await Thursday’s PPI and Friday’s CPI prints for August to clarify the Fed’s path, with the federal funds rate currently steady in the 3.50–3.75 percent range. These data points and any last-minute geopolitical developments will likely dictate near-term DXY direction.
