Strong investor opposition and the absence of a finalized rule underpin the 79% market-implied probability that the SEC will not remove the quarterly reporting requirement. The May 2026 proposal to permit optional semiannual filings on a new Form 10-S instead of mandatory Form 10-Q filings drew record public comments—over 200,000—with the vast majority from investors and analysts opposing reduced disclosure frequency due to concerns over transparency, comparability, and liquidity. CFA Institute surveys confirm broad support for retaining quarterly reports, while earnings releases and 8-K filings would remain unchanged even under any revised regime. Although SEC leadership has signaled intent to proceed with modifications, the rulemaking process faces procedural delays, and no final adoption has occurred as of mid-September 2026. Traders price in these barriers alongside potential catalysts such as upcoming Commission votes or further comment analysis.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission votes to approve a rule or otherwise formally enacts a policy that removes the requirement for publicly traded companies to file quarterly earnings reports by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Narrow company or industry specific removals of quarterly earnings requirements will not qualify. Likewise a general removal of the rules which maintains the quarterly reporting requirement for specific companies will qualify.
Any approving vote on a rule change that reduces the requirement to report earnings from quarterly to a less frequent cadence will qualify.
The primary resolution source will be official information from the SEC; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
