SpaceX’s recent ground rehearsals lifting Ship 42 into the Mechazilla chopsticks at Pad 2, combined with multiple prior Super Heavy booster catches, are the main factors supporting trader expectations for an upper-stage capture by late October. Engineers exercised pin interfaces, lateral translation, and Ship Quick Disconnect reconnection on a production vehicle, validating hardware tweaks like shortened electromechanical arms for the Ship’s faster reentry profile and different aerodynamics. Flight 14, slated for late September with Starlink V3 deployment, will use ocean landings to prioritize payload success, shifting the first tower attempt to Flight 15 later in the fall. Musk’s statements after Flight 13’s precise Ship 40 splashdown have reinforced the timeline, though regulatory approvals and post-flight data reviews remain key variables.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
