Democrats hold a substantial edge in the market for older women in the 2026 midterms, reflecting recent generic ballot polling that shows women overall favoring Democratic House candidates by double-digit margins and specific AARP surveys indicating stronger support among female voters 50 and older in key states. Economic pressures including cost-of-living increases, prescription drug prices, and retirement security concerns have weighed on this group, alongside broader dissatisfaction reflected in declining presidential approval ratings among women. Polling from July and August 2026 highlights these trends, with older women prioritizing Social Security, Medicare, and healthcare access as turnout drivers in a midterm electorate where they represent a reliable voting bloc. Republicans retain competitiveness among some segments of voters 50-plus, particularly on issues like inflation and border security, though current data points to a narrower path in this demographic.
