Juwan Johnson enters the 2026 season as the Saints' primary tight end after a career-high 889 receiving yards in 2025, operating in Kellen Moore's offense behind quarterback Tyler Shough. His Week 1 output of 54 yards and a touchdown on seven targets signals continued involvement, amplified short-term by rookie wideout Jordyn Tyson's hamstring injury that sidelines him for multiple weeks. However, offseason additions of Noah Fant and third-round tight end Oscar Delp create direct competition for targets alongside Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele, likely trimming Johnson's prior 18% target share. A minor illness limited his Wednesday practice ahead of Week 2 at Baltimore, though he is expected to play. The 30-year-old's red-zone usage and ability to maintain efficiency against improved defensive attention will shape his full-season yardage total.
