Local government elections are scheduled to be held across Tasmania on October 27, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of the City of Burnie as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as declared by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (https://www.tec.tas.gov.au/).Incumbent Teeny Brumby leads trader consensus in the October 2026 Burnie mayoral race at 42%, narrowly ahead of deputy mayor Giovanna Simpson at 32.5%, with Chris Lynch, Geoffrey Summers, and Ken Dorsey trailing. Brumby's position draws from her record of modest rate rises, waterfront renewal, and capital works since 2022, while Simpson's challenge stems from her February announcement prioritizing local governance over state parliamentary prospects and emphasizing business support, families, and community engagement. Nominations opened September 7 and close September 21, sustaining uncertainty over additional entrants and keeping probabilities fragmented across a competitive field. Local issues including housing pressures from industrial projects and asset renewal continue to shape positioning ahead of the Tasmanian Electoral Commission poll close on October 27.
