Recent auction results underscore the scarcity of trophy lots capable of reaching nine-figure territory. The last public sale above $150 million was Jackson Pollock’s Number 7A at $181.2 million in May 2026, following the record $236.4 million Klimt in late 2025; September 2026 evening sales at Sotheby’s totaled $186.1 million across dozens of lots, with individual works peaking far lower. With roughly three months remaining and no announced consignments estimated near that threshold, traders see limited catalysts for another ultra-high sale before year-end. The market’s flight to quality and selective buyer participation continue to favor established blue-chip names, yet current supply and economic caution constrain the probability of matching prior peaks.
