Nasim Nuñez holds a commanding lead in the MLB stolen bases race with 46 through mid-September, well ahead of Chandler Simpson's 41 and the rest of the field, which explains the market's strong consensus around him. His consistent base-stealing volume, even as a light hitter for the Nationals, has created separation that appears difficult to overcome with roughly two weeks left in the regular season. Simpson remains the clearest alternative due to his speed and regular playing time with the Rays, yet recent form shows limited gains on the leader. Other contenders like Bobby Witt Jr., Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Pete Crow-Armstrong trail by wider margins and face steeper paths in the final games. Trader pricing reflects this gap while accounting for the inherent variability of late-season stolen base opportunities.
