Nicolás Maduro faces a June 2027 trial in U.S. federal court on a four-count superseding indictment alleging narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation, and related weapons offenses. He has pleaded not guilty and filed motions seeking dismissal on head-of-state immunity grounds, with a November 17, 2026 hearing scheduled on those arguments. Pretrial proceedings remain lengthy, including discovery disputes and potential jurisdictional challenges, while the market resolves by December 31, 2027. Recent developments, such as a close associate’s guilty plea to related money-laundering charges, could supply additional evidence but also highlight the possibility of plea negotiations or convictions on fewer than all counts. These procedural and timeline factors underpin trader expectations that a complete conviction on every charge remains unlikely.
