Recent polling averages place Bündnis 90/Die Grünen several points ahead of the SPD in the 20 September Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus election, with Grüne figures typically in the 15–18% range versus 11–15% for the SPD. This gap has widened amid the SPD’s broader decline since the 2023 repeat election. The most immediate catalyst is the 9 September execution of search warrants against SPD lead candidate Steffen Krach by Hanover prosecutors, prompting an emergency SPD state executive meeting that reaffirmed support but drew fresh scrutiny. Grüne candidate Werner Graf has faced fewer headwinds, while coalition arithmetic discussions continue to center on potential Kenya or red-red-green formations that would still require both parties. These trends underpin the current trader consensus favoring Grüne to receive more votes.
