Malik Willis enters the 2026 season as the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback after signing a three-year, $67.5 million contract in March. The Dolphins are in rebuild mode following the departure of Tua Tagovailoa and star wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, leaving Willis with a young, inexperienced receiving group that includes rookies Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell plus slot receiver Malik Washington. New head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, familiar with Willis from his Packers backup role, have emphasized building around him while planning to add quarterback competition via the 2027 draft. Limited prior starting experience, a modest supporting cast, and expectations of a low-win season could constrain passing volume and touchdown opportunities, though his dual-threat rushing profile offers some complementary production. The Week 1 opener against the Raiders marks his first regular-season start in Miami.
