A.J. Brown’s right ankle injury in the third quarter of New England’s Week 1 loss to Seattle immediately shapes expectations for his 2026 regular-season receiving touchdowns. The veteran wideout, acquired from Philadelphia in the offseason, exited after three catches for 26 yards and has no firm timeline for return, with coach Mike Vrabel offering no update. Ankle sprains often require multiple weeks of recovery, which could limit early targets from quarterback Drake Maye and alter the Patriots’ passing-game distribution to options like Romeo Doubs. Brown’s prior consistency—seven touchdowns in each of his last several seasons—provides a baseline, yet the Week 1 setback and uncertain status for the upcoming matchup against Pittsburgh introduce meaningful downside risk for a full-season total.
