Andy Burnham’s recent PMQs appearances have centered on defence spending commitments, with the prime minister reiterating plans for 3.5% of GDP by 2035 while dodging firm 2030 targets amid opposition pressure from Kemi Badenoch. Ongoing economic scrutiny over borrowing costs, the October budget, and foreign policy flashpoints like sanctions on Israeli settlements and the Chagos Islands deal continue to frame exchanges. Traders are watching for any shift in fiscal messaging or new domestic priorities ahead of the next session, likely on 16 September, as party conferences and autumn spending reviews loom as key catalysts that could prompt specific pledges or pivots.
