This market will resolve to "Yes" if Russia conducts a nuclear test by the listed date (ET). Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A nuclear test is defined as the intentional non-combat detonation of a device by Russia that produces a nuclear chain reaction (fission or fusion), regardless of yield. Accidents, radiological dispersal devices (bombs that spread radioactive material using conventional explosives such as "dirty bombs"), or actions by third parties will not count toward this market's resolution. Tests not explicitly claimed by Russia may still qualify if a clear consensus of credible reporting attributes the nuclear detonation to Russia. For example, an unclaimed nuclear test analogous to the 1979 "Vela Incident" would count if credible reporting attributes it to Russia. The resolution source for this market will be a broad consensus of credible reporting.Russia maintains active preparations at the Novaya Zemlya test site, including infrastructure upgrades and statements from officials that the facility is ready for full-scale nuclear explosive testing, following its 2023 withdrawal from CTBT ratification. However, Moscow has conducted only non-explosive tests of delivery systems such as the Sarmat ICBM (successful launch May 2026), Burevestnik cruise missile, and Poseidon underwater drone (both October 2025), explicitly distinguishing these from nuclear detonations. The Kremlin has denied any explosive tests amid New START's February 2026 expiration and U.S. signals on resuming testing, while signaling potential reciprocity without crossing that threshold. Trader consensus assigns low probabilities to a near-term explosive test, reflecting the absence of verified detonations, ongoing diplomatic caution, and preference for advanced conventional or delivery-system demonstrations over breaking the post-Soviet testing moratorium. Scheduled strategic exercises and any shifts in U.S.-Russia arms talks could influence future positioning.
