Amazon's 2026 capital expenditure guidance stands at approximately $220 billion following the Q2 earnings update, lifted from an initial $200 billion target primarily due to elevated memory chip costs and accelerated AI infrastructure needs for AWS. Strong generative AI demand has pushed the cloud backlog to $496 billion, more than doubling year over year, with management indicating capacity will remain constrained through 2027 and substantial 2028 commitments already in place. Quarterly spending reached $53.1 billion in Q2, contributing to trailing twelve-month free cash flow turning negative at $7.6 billion as buildout outpaces monetization. Traders will monitor the late-October Q3 release for any further revisions to the full-year run rate or signals on component pricing and utilization trends.
