Primary focus areas include semiconductors, with a 9.9% stake in Intel as the largest holding, critical minerals such as MP Materials and Lithium Americas, quantum computing firms including IBM and GlobalFoundries, plus select defense, nuclear, and energy projects. July 2026 announcements added six more semiconductor recipients via letters of intent, while additional structures involve international partners like Korea Zinc and a Venezuelan oil arrangement. Legal challenges, including shareholder suits over CHIPS-linked equity terms, and mixed public and economist views on government ownership have introduced uncertainty ahead of the 2026 midterms, which could shape continuation or reversal of the approach. Trader attention centers on which firms receive new funding tied to supply-chain security priorities and how agency implementation evolves.
