The election for Regionspräsidentin of Hannover Region is set for September 13, 2026, with a potential runoff on September 27 if no candidate secures an outright majority. Eva Bender, the SPD nominee and former Hannover city education and culture official, holds the strongest trader consensus at 70 percent, reflecting the party's long regional incumbency after outgoing president Steffen Krach stepped aside. CDU candidate Oliver Junk, a former Goslar mayor with administrative experience, trails at 27 percent amid expectations of a competitive two-way runoff between the major parties. Minor-party contenders including Green candidate Sinja Münzberg and AfD's Nicolas Lehrke register negligible shares, consistent with the fragmented field of eleven approved candidates and historical local voting patterns that favor the SPD-CDU dynamic. Recent nomination processes and limited public polling have reinforced this positioning without major last-minute shifts.
