Toy Story 5’s $159.7 million domestic opening in June established it as the year’s second-biggest debut to date, trailing only Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s record $360 million launch while comfortably ahead of titles like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Strong family appeal, Pixar brand equity, and positive reviews created durable presale momentum that few subsequent releases have approached. With December tentpoles such as Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Messiah still ahead, traders assign them minimal implied probability of cracking the top three, reflecting historical patterns where animated sequels often post outsized early-summer openings relative to crowded holiday slates. An upset would require one of those late-year films to post an unexpectedly front-loaded gross exceeding Toy Story 5 while another major release surpasses it, a scenario current tracking and market pricing view as unlikely.
