Kyle Monangai enters the 2026 NFL season as the established backup running back for the Chicago Bears behind D’Andre Swift, following a rookie year that produced 783 rushing yards on 169 carries. A hyperextended knee suffered in training camp sidelined him for most of the preseason, but he returned to practice in early September and cleared the Week 1 injury report, positioning him for a rotational role similar to 2025. The Bears’ ground attack under their current scheme has shown efficiency with both backs, though Swift retains the lead share; Monangai’s total rushing yards will hinge on weekly snap splits, any late-season injury to Swift in his contract year, and Chicago’s overall offensive volume. Projections place him in a 120-190 carry range as the clear No. 2 option.
