Juwan Johnson enters the 2026 NFL season coming off a career-high 2025 campaign of 77 receptions for 889 yards and three touchdowns on 102 targets, when injuries to other Saints pass-catchers boosted his volume. The 30-year-old tight end now faces greater competition for targets in New Orleans’ offense, which added weapons including rookie wideout Jordyn Tyson (currently on injured reserve with a hamstring issue) and additional depth at tight end. Tyler Shough returns as the starting quarterback, and Johnson’s established role as a reliable mismatch creator against linebackers and safeties remains intact despite the Saints’ deeper receiving corps. His three-year contract extension through 2027 signals organizational commitment, though early-season usage will clarify how target distribution shifts from last year’s elevated share.
