Recent withdrawals by Dutch broadcaster Avrotros and Ireland's RTÉ, both citing neutrality concerns tied to Israel's participation amid the Gaza conflict, have introduced notable uncertainty into the participant pool for the 2027 contest in Burgas, Bulgaria. These follow similar boycotts in 2026 and coincide with the mid-October withdrawal deadline after the September 15 application cutoff. Offsetting this, Canada's EBU membership enables its debut—the first new entrant since Australia—while North Macedonia confirms a return after four years out. Roughly two dozen broadcasters have publicly committed so far, with expectations of around 40 total participants. Traders are watching EBU announcements on final lineups and any further geopolitical developments that could shift the field before national selection processes ramp up in early 2027.
