Patrick Mahomes remains the clear frontrunner to start Week 1 for the Kansas City Chiefs, reflecting his full participation in training camp and coach Andy Reid’s recent confirmation of his readiness barring any late setback. Coming off December 2025 ACL and LCL surgery, Mahomes avoided the preseason but has taken every first-team rep without missing practice, aligning with the team’s depth chart listing him ahead of Justin Fields and rookie Garrett Nussmeier. His restructured contract extension through 2033 further cements his long-term role as the franchise quarterback. While an unforeseen injury flare-up could open the door for Fields or another option, current reports indicate steady progress and no complications.

If multiple players take the same number of snaps on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, the market will resolve to the player who took the first snap at quarterback.
This market may not resolve before the start of the Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season game.
The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the NFL (NFL.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
