A.J. Brown enters the 2026 regular season as the New England Patriots' clear lead wide receiver after a June trade from Philadelphia, where he posted 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games during 2025. With Drake Maye under center and limited competition for targets following offseason roster changes, analysts project Brown for heavy volume in the 120-130 target range, positioning him for 80-plus catches if healthy. However, an ankle injury sustained in Week 1 against Seattle—where he finished with three receptions for 26 yards before exiting—has created short-term uncertainty, with tests pending ahead of the September 20 matchup versus Pittsburgh. Brown has maintained consistent production across prior seasons despite varying offensive schemes, though ankle issues could affect his explosiveness and availability in the early going.
