This market will resolve to "Yes" if the European Union's long-term sovereign credit letter rating is downgraded by any of the three major credit rating agencies (S&P, Moody's, Fitch) at any point between market creation and December 31, 2026 11:59pm ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be official information from Standard & Poor's, Moody's, or Fitch, however a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Recent affirmations of the European Union's AAA or AA+ ratings with stable outlooks by Fitch, Moody's, Scope, and DBRS underscore the primary driver behind the 70.5% market-implied probability of no downgrade before 2027. These reflect the bloc's strong institutional backing from AAA-rated member states' GNI contributions, preferred creditor status, and expanded own-resources ceiling that fully covers debt service even as outstanding EU debt climbs toward EUR1 trillion by end-2027 from NGEU disbursements, defense programs, and Ukraine support. Rising euro-area deficits near 3.5% of GDP and interest burdens add pressure, yet no near-term rating actions signal deterioration, supporting trader consensus on resilience through at least the next 15 months absent major shocks.
