Ed Ruscha’s auction market has shown resilience in 2026, with works on paper frequently exceeding estimates amid steady demand for his Pop-inflected output. Recent sales include a 1963 tempera-and-ink piece realizing $889,000 at Christie’s in May and other 1970s works on paper fetching $635,500 and $576,000 at Bonhams and Sotheby’s, often surpassing high estimates. These results build on the artist’s 2024 record of $68.3 million for a major 1960s painting and consistent sell-through rates above 78% across recent seasons. Traders are watching the October 7 Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale for “Cities Across the Globe,” where final “lot sold” price will determine resolution, with momentum from strong precursor results and selective collector interest in mid-tier Ruscha pieces likely supporting current implied probabilities.
