Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” released in July 2026 to strong reviews and solid box office, has emerged as the early frontrunner for a 2027 Best Picture nomination, with traders assigning it the highest implied probability among contenders. Its technical ambition and the director’s recent awards success create momentum heading into fall festivals, where titles like “Dune: Part Three,” “Digger,” “Wild Horse Nine,” and Netflix’s Cannes winner “La Bola Negra” will seek critical validation and guild attention. Studio campaigns, precursor results from groups like the PGA and DGA, and late-year releases will shape the final nominee slate announced in January 2027, though historical patterns show that strong festival debuts can quickly elevate under-the-radar films.
