Omarion Hampton enters his second NFL season as the clear lead back for the Los Angeles Chargers, following a 2025 rookie year limited to nine games and 545 rushing yards by ankle injuries. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel brings a scheme that has produced efficient rushing attacks elsewhere, supported by the return of starting tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt plus interior line reinforcements. Hampton handled 12 carries for 43 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against Arizona while losing a fumble, with no targets in the passing game. He faces minimal competition from Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal for early-down and goal-line work. Total regular-season output will hinge on his health through a full 17-game slate, the Chargers' overall offensive efficiency, and game-script volume in McDaniel's system.
