Wu Hsiu-hua, the Kuomintang nominee and current Taitung County Council speaker, holds a commanding lead in trader consensus for the November 28, 2026, magistrate race, reflecting the party's long-standing structural advantage in the county and her institutional position succeeding term-limited incumbent Yao Ching-ling. The Democratic Progressive Party's Chen Ying, an incumbent legislator with indigenous Puyuma heritage, represents the strongest opposition challenge in years, aided by roughly one-quarter of the electorate sharing indigenous ties, yet historical voting patterns and limited recent polling momentum have kept her implied probability low. Independent candidates such as Li Wu Ying-chih register negligible support. A reported road-widening project linked to Wu's family has drawn scrutiny and opposition criticism, but has not shifted the market's assessment of her frontrunner status ahead of the vote.
