Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has emerged as the dominant early frontrunner for a Best Picture nomination at the 2027 Oscars, buoyed by strong critical reception, a high Rotten Tomatoes score, and solid box office performance since its July release. Studios are mounting aggressive campaigns for other major 2026 releases, including “Dune: Part Three,” “Project Hail Mary,” and “Wild Horse Nine,” while fall festivals such as Venice and Toronto have generated fresh momentum for titles like the Palme d’Or winner “Fjord” and Netflix’s “La Bola Negra.” Historical Academy patterns favor director-driven epics and guild-recognized productions, though late-season reviews, precursor awards, and the January 2027 nomination voting window remain decisive swing factors for traders assessing nomination odds.
