South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District carries a Republican Partisan Voter Index of R+7 and has remained in GOP hands for more than two decades under incumbent Joe Wilson. Wilson secured his party’s nomination in the June 9 primary with 74 percent of the vote, while Democrat Zyon Khalifa advanced through a June 23 runoff to face him in the November 3 general election. Forecasters rate the seat Solid or Safe Republican, reflecting consistent GOP performance in presidential and congressional voting. The combination of long-term incumbency, district partisanship, and limited opposition has produced the current trader consensus around Wilson’s strong position. A late national political shift or major campaign-altering event would be required to narrow the gap meaningfully before Election Day.
