Incumbent Republican Bill Huizenga holds a modest edge in trader consensus for Michigan’s 4th congressional district, reflecting the seat’s R+3 partisan voter index and his established base in southwestern Michigan communities including Kalamazoo and Holland. Both candidates cleared their August 4 primaries by wide margins, with Huizenga at 85% and McCann at 67%, clearing the path for a November 3 general election matchup also featuring Green Party nominee Shafina Barnett. Forecasters rate the contest Lean Republican, citing Huizenga’s prior victories and fundraising lead. McCann, a term-limited state senator, has highlighted fundraising gains, an early internal poll lead, and policy contrasts on affordability and ethics rules, though the district’s voting patterns and independent voter trends continue to anchor expectations around the incumbent.
