Yordan Alvarez holds a commanding lead in the intentional walks market due to his league-leading 32 IBBs through mid-September, fueled by his elite power production as Houston’s primary designated hitter. Opposing pitchers frequently issue free passes in high-leverage spots with runners on base to neutralize his extra-base threat, a pattern reflected in multiple multi-IBB games this season. Traders see this as a near-lock given his substantial edge over pursuers like Shohei Ohtani and others with far fewer intentional walks. A late injury sidelining Alvarez or an unforeseen surge from a contender in the final weeks represent the main scenarios that could realistically shift the outcome before the regular season concludes.
