Under the Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act, he holds discretion to dissolve Parliament at any time, but the fixed five-year term from the July 2024 election sets an automatic dissolution around July 2029 and a latest polling date of mid-August 2029. Recent by-elections, including the October 8 contest in Holborn and St Pancras, and Reform UK’s ongoing candidate recruitment highlight shifting opposition dynamics without creating immediate triggers for a snap election. Polling volatility and the new leadership’s focus on stabilizing support further support expectations of a later call.
