Tensions between India and Pakistan remain elevated following the May 2025 four-day conflict triggered by a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, after which India conducted precision strikes on militant infrastructure under Operation Sindoor before a ceasefire took hold. The most recent catalyst is the September 15, 2026 naval collision in the Arabian Sea, prompting mutual diplomatic protests and accusations of unprofessional conduct in violation of the 1991 agreement on military movements. Both sides continue military modernization, including Indian acquisitions of advanced munitions and Pakistani focus on defensive systems, while the suspended Indus Waters Treaty and frozen bilateral channels limit de-escalation pathways. Trader sentiment reflects caution around potential triggers such as border incidents, maritime encounters, or water disputes, balanced against the high costs of renewed escalation for nuclear-armed neighbors and the absence of immediate large-scale mobilization.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
