Morocco, Gabon, Niger, and Lesotho open AFCON 2027 qualifying with Matchday 1 fixtures on September 25, leaving all sides at zero points and the group winner market tightly bunched. Morocco enters as the highest-ranked side but faces a growing injury list, including goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and striker Ayoub El Kaabi, plus adjustment under new coach Mohamed Ouahbi. The remaining trio brings varying experience from recent international windows, with Gabon and Niger holding modest recent form edges over Lesotho in CAF competition. Home-and-away scheduling across three windows, combined with potential points swings from early results, sustains the competitive balance reflected in current implied probabilities. Roster depth, travel demands, and the compressed calendar further contribute to the even distribution among frontrunners.
