Recent polls ahead of the September 20 Berlin state election show the CDU holding a substantial lead over the SPD, with the latter consistently placed at historic lows around 10-12 percent while the CDU registers 20-21 percent. This positioning reflects the SPD’s weakened standing within the current CDU-SPD coalition government and limited momentum for its candidate. Multiple surveys from Forschungsgruppe Wahlen, Infratest dimap, and INSA confirm the gap has remained stable in recent weeks. Trader consensus at 96 percent for the CDU therefore aligns with the sustained polling differential and short remaining campaign period. A narrow set of late developments, including unusually high differential turnout or an unforeseen scandal, could still narrow margins, though such shifts would need to be large to alter the outcome.
