Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs sit nearly tied atop the 2027 NBA champion market due to their status as the Western Conference’s elite young cores entering the 2026-27 season. The Spurs reached the 2026 Finals behind Victor Wembanyama’s Defensive Player of the Year campaign and supporting pieces including Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, while the Thunder posted a 64-18 regular season before injuries hampered their Western Conference Finals run against San Antonio. Both retain core continuity—Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren for Oklahoma City—despite Thunder depth adjustments to manage the second apron. Philadelphia’s addition of LeBron James has lifted the 76ers into the next tier alongside defending champion New York Knicks, but the top two’s combination of talent, recent playoff pedigree, and projected health keeps the implied probabilities bunched and the overall field wide open.
