C.J. Stroud enters the 2026 NFL season under significant pressure following a 2025 campaign of 19 passing touchdowns in 14 games and a postseason with four interceptions. After productive but inconclusive extension talks, the Texans paused negotiations until after the year, positioning this as a prove-it season for the quarterback ahead of his fifth-year option. Week 1 produced efficient numbers—26 of 38 for 274 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions—though two lost fumbles highlighted ongoing turnover concerns. Houston’s retooled offensive line, addition of David Montgomery, and healthy receiving corps including Nico Collins aim to boost scoring opportunities, while an elite defense sets favorable game scripts. Stroud’s improved conditioning and pocket presence are viewed as positives heading into Week 2 against Cincinnati.
