George Kittle opened the 2026 NFL season returning from a torn Achilles sustained in the prior postseason, playing limited snaps in Week 1 before posting 4 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 while coming off the injury report. The 32-year-old tight end enters the year after averaging strong per-game production in 2025 despite missing six contests, and the 49ers’ depleted wide receiver room—with Ricky Pearsall sidelined for the year and additional injuries—has increased early target opportunities in an offense led by Brock Purdy. San Francisco has managed Kittle’s workload closely to protect the recovery, but his route participation and after-the-catch explosiveness have trended positively. His historical efficiency as a red-zone and intermediate option positions him for elevated volume if the snap count rises steadily through the first half of the schedule.
