Arman Tsarukyan entered the UFC 331 co-main event against Mauricio Ruffy as the No. 2 lightweight contender seeking to reestablish title-shot momentum after withdrawing from a 2025 bout with Islam Makhachev due to injury. Ruffy, riding back-to-back knockouts and ranked inside the top 10, presented a stylistic test with his striking power and reach advantage. Traders focused on how commentary would frame Tsarukyan’s wrestling pressure, clinch work, and any visible damage like the swelling under his eye from an early right hand, alongside references to his six-fight win streak and post-fight title aspirations against champion Justin Gaethje. The five-round lightweight bout carried clear implications for division positioning, with Ruffy positioned as the dangerous underdog capable of altering narratives through early offense.
